A Chance to Go to School
Educating a child is a significant way to break the cycle of
poverty. Without the presence of Al Mahabbeh School in Saadnayel and Al Bassel School in Baalbek,
children as young as three and four years of age would be working in the fields alongside their
parents. With the help of caring sponsors providing tuition and school supplies, students have
gone on to graduate from school, obtaining jobs that provide food, heat and medical care for their
families as never before.

Books for School
Most schools expect students to provide their own textbooks
for each school year. With many families barely able to feed and clothe their children, it is almost
impossible for them to educate them. At the present time a significant number of students are still without
books and when possible must share with classmates to complete their assignments.
Helping to provide books can make it possible to keep a child in school with the hope of a brighter future alive.
Classroom Materials
Even before young children learn to read their educational experience can be enhanced and expedited through
many different avenues. It is sometimes difficult for teachers to share a new idea with the children without
any visual aids. Putting markers and other much needed teaching supplies
into the teachers’ hands can help them create a better foundation for the children’s learning.

Keeping the Students Warm
The Bekaa Valley has a mountainous climate which consists of wet,
freezing, snowy winter months. Temperatures can be so cold the water freezes in the pipes making it
unavailable to residents. Buildings are made of cement and stone and are very cold and damp inside
during this time period. Making heat available in the classrooms helps to keep the schools open
during this cold season. |

Taking Medical Care to the Villages
The poor populations around the world are the most
vulnerable to inadequate health care with most having little to no access to healthcare services of any kind.
With the help of partners and sponsors, Bridges of Love can take a mobile clinic, its staff and medicines to the Bedouin
people in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon.

Healthy Children
Less than one third of Bedouin children have
been vaccinated against childhood illnesses.
Thankfully, new awareness of this figure and
involvement by local doctors and the Ministry of
Health are making it possible to begin an
immunization program among this neglected people
in the Bekaa Valley.

A Box of Food
Life in the Middle East can be hard and often unpredictable. With ever changing political situations and unstable global economics it is often difficult for families to provide for their needs. Delivering a box of food not only meets nutritional needs but brings with it a renewed sense of hope and an openness of heart.
Each food parcel contains items such as rice, flour, oil, lentils and other basic items and can assist in feeding a family for
up to two weeks.

Emergency Supplies
When war, poverty, economic or natural disasters strike it often leads to large
numbers of people leaving their homes with little or none of their possessions. Many find themselves without food, water, shelter
and needed medicines. Being prepared to meet these needs can often mean survival for children and the elderly who are the most
vulnerable during these times.

Clean Water Project
Though certain medical conditions are seen throughout rural areas of Lebanon, the problems of untreated sewage and unclean water pose more specific health issues to the Bedouin population of the Baalbek and Saadnayel areas. Working towards connecting these areas to sewer systems and providing access to clean water will help reduce the higher occurrences of dermatological conditions, gastro-intestinal problems and high infant mortality.

Send a Child to Camp
Each summer over one hundred children have the opportunity to learn what
it is to truly enjoy life. Political instability and poverty have caused these children to grow up
far too quickly and experience life in ways well beyond their years. Partnering in this project will
provide campers the opportunity to share in a week full of activities that will challenge them and help
them blossom physically and emotionally.

Micro-Business
There is a Chinese proverb which says, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”. It is important to equip people to help feed themselves,
restoring and maintaining their dignity in providing for their own needs. Many families can be helped by their own
hard work and with loans and assistance from Bridges of Love.
